About the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II Lens
The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is a fast wide-angle zoom lens designed for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, offering a constant f/2.8 aperture across its entire focal range. The lens features advanced optical design with one Super ED and two ED elements along with five aspherical elements, including three extreme aspherical elements, which deliver enhanced resolution, clarity, and high-quality bokeh while minimizing distortion and chromatic aberration. The autofocus system uses four XD linear motors for faster, quieter, and more precise focusing performance, with a floating focus mechanism that maintains image quality and enables a close minimum focus distance of 8.6 inches with 0.32x maximum magnification.
Compared to its predecessor, this lens is approximately 20% lighter and 10% smaller, weighing just 1.2 pounds while maintaining professional durability through its dust and moisture-resistant construction with rubber gaskets and a fluorine-coated front element. The redesigned aperture ring provides manual exposure control and can be de-clicked for silent operation, making it well-suited for both still photography and video work. Additional video-focused features include minimized focus breathing and focus shift, linear response manual focus, and support for breathing compensation in compatible Sony cameras.
