The Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G is a full-frame standard zoom lens for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras that spans an ultra-wide to portrait-length focal range in a compact 488-gram design. The lens features a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, complemented by optical elements including three ED elements and one ED aspherical element that deliver edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal aberrations. Advanced autofocus performance is provided by two XD linear motors that enable fast, silent focusing with improved tracking, while an internal focusing system prevents lens extension and barrel rotation to accommodate use with circular polarizers and variable ND filters.
The lens is optimized for both photography and videography, featuring eliminations of focus breathing and focus shift, micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure transitions, and active mode image stabilization support for seamless video capture. Design elements include a hybrid metal and plastic construction for durability and light weight, a fluorine-coated front lens element that repels water and dust, and a dust and moisture-resistant mount with rubber sealing for inclement weather performance. With a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches and a 94-degree angle of view, this lens provides excellent close-up capability and an expansive field of view suitable for wide-angle, landscape, and content creation applications.
