The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is a telephoto zoom lens designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras, offering a bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout its entire zoom range. The optical design incorporates six low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberration and distortion, while BBAR-G2 coatings suppress flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast and color accuracy. Dual VXD linear autofocus motors deliver fast, quiet, and precise focusing from a minimum distance of 10.63 inches, with full-time manual focus override available for video and stills work.
The lens features a moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine-coated front element for protection against environmental elements and smudging, complemented by a floating elements system that maintains consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces pleasing bokeh characteristics, and a zoom lock switch prevents unwanted barrel extension during transport.
