The lens maintains a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, providing consistent light transmission and performance in various lighting conditions. Its optical design incorporates three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements that effectively minimize distortion, spherical aberrations, and chromatic aberrations for sharp, accurate imagery with excellent color rendition.
The lens features a Silent Wave Motor for fast and precise autofocus with full-time manual focus override capability, along with VR II image stabilization that reduces camera shake by 2.5 stops to enable steady handheld shooting in challenging lighting. A Nano Crystal Coat applied to individual lens elements suppresses internal reflections and flare for improved contrast and color accuracy in harsh or backlit conditions. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces pleasing bokeh for shallow depth of field photography.
