This lens features an advanced optical design with two ED and two Super ED elements, five aspherical elements including two extreme aspherical elements, and an 11-blade aperture diaphragm that work together to deliver exceptional resolution, clarity, and smooth bokeh quality comparable to prime lenses. The autofocus system incorporates four XD Linear Motors for fast, quiet, and precise focusing performance with internal floating focus mechanism that maintains image quality throughout the focusing range, enabling minimum focus distances of 8.3" at 24mm and 11.8" at 70mm.
At approximately 22% lighter and 18% smaller than its predecessor, this lens combines professional durability with portability through its hybrid metal and plastic construction and comprehensive weather sealing with rubber gaskets and fluorine-coated front element. Video-focused enhancements include minimized focus breathing and focus shift, de-clickable manual aperture ring for silent operation, and adjustable zoom smoothness. The lens ships with a locking hood featuring a filter window and accepts 82mm front filters.
