Its optical design incorporates four low-dispersion elements and three aspherical elements that work together to minimize chromatic aberrations, distortion, and spherical aberrations, resulting in high clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range.

The lens employs a Ultrasonic Silent Drive motor paired with a Dynamic Rolling-cam mechanism for fast and quiet autofocus performance, while also supporting full-time manual focus override with a minimum focus distance of 11.8 inches.
