The Canon EOS R is a full-frame mirrorless camera that features a 30.3MP CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC 8 image processor, delivering high-resolution images with native ISO sensitivity from 100 to 40,000 and expandable range to ISO 102,400. The camera offers continuous shooting at up to 8 fps and UHD 4K30 video recording with Canon Log gamma and 10-bit 4:2:2 HDMI output for advanced color grading capabilities.

The camera incorporates Canon's new RF lens mount, a 54mm diameter design that enables faster and more compact lens construction while remaining compatible with existing EF and EF-S mount lenses via an adapter. The Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus system utilizes 5,655 selectable points with sensitivity down to EV -6 for reliable focusing in low-light conditions, and it functions seamlessly for both stills and video applications. The EOS R features a 3.69-megadot OLED electronic viewfinder for eye-level composition and a 3.15-inch touchscreen LCD with articulating design for flexible shooting angles, while its magnesium alloy body provides dust and moisture resistance for reliable operation in varied weather conditions.
