The Canon ST-E2 is a wireless infrared transmitter that controls multiple Canon Speedlite flashes in two separate groups using E-TTL or E-TTL II autoflash technology. It mounts on the camera's hot shoe and can manage an unlimited number of compatible slave flashes, including the 420EX, 430EX, 430EX II, 550EX, 580EX, and 580EX II models. The transmitter allows independent control of flash output ratios between groups A and B in 13 steps, ranging from 1:8 to 8:1, and supports high-speed FP flash synchronization.
The ST-E2 features a built-in AF-assist beam for improved autofocus performance in low-light conditions and offers a transmission range of approximately 39-49 feet indoors or 26-33 feet outdoors at a coverage angle of ±40° horizontal and ±30° vertical. The unit operates on a single 2CR5 lithium battery and includes a test transmission button to confirm slave flash operation. It is compatible with select Canon EOS and PowerShot camera models that support E-TTL autoflash functionality.
