The Nikon D780 is a full-frame DSLR that combines traditional design with contemporary imaging capabilities for both photography and video. It features a 24.5MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor paired with the EXPEED 6 processor, delivering high-resolution stills with native ISO sensitivity from 100–51,200 (expandable to 50–204,800) and a continuous shooting rate of up to 12 fps in live view mode. The camera incorporates a 51-point phase-detection autofocus system in optical viewfinder mode and a 273-point Hybrid AF system for live view and video, both supporting Eye-Detection AF for accurate subject tracking.

Video capabilities include UHD 4K recording at up to 30 fps with full-frame or crop options, 1080p recording at up to 120 fps, and support for N-Log gamma and HLG for professional color grading and HDR content creation. The camera body includes a 0.7x optical pentaprism viewfinder, a 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen LCD, dual UHS-II SD memory card slots, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless file transfer and remote control via the Nikon SnapBridge app.
