The optical design incorporates four aspherical elements and two SLD elements that suppress aberrations while an 11-blade rounded diaphragm produces smooth, natural bokeh. This version II lens is 14% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor at 1.2 pounds, features dust- and splash-resistant seals for durability, and includes a newly developed Advanced Amorphous Coating that reduces flare and ghosting.

The lens utilizes a dual high-response linear actuator for fast and precise autofocus performance, supported by a floating focus system that maintains consistent sharpness from 11 inches to infinity with minimal focus breathing for video work.
