The Sony a7CR is a compact full-frame mirrorless camera featuring a 61-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR processor, delivering professional-grade image quality in a portable design suitable for everyday carry. The camera captures 14-bit RAW files with a native ISO range of 100-32000 (expandable to 50-102400), achieves continuous shooting speeds of up to 8 fps at full resolution, and offers seven stops of optical image stabilization for handheld shooting stability. Advanced AI-powered autofocus covers 79% of the frame with 693 phase-detection points and includes specialized tracking modes for humans, animals, birds, insects, and vehicles, while the Pixel Shift Multi Shooting mode can combine 16 exposures to create 240.8-megapixel composite images with enhanced color accuracy.

For video, the a7CR records 4K UHD at up to 60 fps in 10-bit 4:2:2 using the XAVC S-I format at bitrates up to 600 Mb/s, with Full HD capable of 120 fps for slow-motion work. The camera features professional cinema codecs including S-Log3 and S-Cinetone color profiles for greater post-production flexibility and color grading control. The magnesium alloy body includes a 2.36-megadot OLED viewfinder, a 3-inch articulating touchscreen LCD, integrated Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth connectivity, and accepts Sony's NP-FZ100 battery with optional USB-C power input.
