The lens incorporates advanced optical elements including one fluorite element and one Super UD element to minimize chromatic aberrations and deliver sharp, detailed images across the entire zoom range. A four-stop optical image stabilizer with three selectable modes—Standard, Panning, and During Exposure Only—effectively minimizes camera shake for handheld shooting and low-light situations.
The lens features a ring-type ultrasonic motor for fast and quiet autofocus operation with full-time manual focus override, complemented by a redeveloped rotation-type zoom ring with adjustable zoom tension for personalized control. A weather-resistant barrel with fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements protects against dust, moisture, and fingerprints, while the included ET-83D lens hood features a side window for rotating filter adjustment.
