The lens features a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, enabling consistent performance and fine control over depth of field for selective focus techniques. Its optical design incorporates four ultra-low dispersion elements and Super Spectra coatings to minimize chromatic aberrations, flare, and ghosting for high clarity and color fidelity.
The lens employs a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor and internal focusing mechanism to deliver fast, quiet, and accurate autofocus with full-time manual focus override capability. As an L-series optic, it is sealed against dust and moisture for reliable operation in challenging environmental conditions. A removable rotating tripod collar is included, and the lens is compatible with optional Canon 1.4X and 2X teleconverters.
