The lens features a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, enabling consistent performance in variable lighting conditions and allowing for selective focus techniques. Optical quality is enhanced by four aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements that control aberrations and distortion, while multi-layer coatings including ARNEO, Nano Crystal, and Super Integrated Coatings suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy.
The lens incorporates a dual-motor autofocus system that delivers fast and quiet focusing suitable for both stills and video work, with full-time manual focus override available. An integrated OLED information panel on the lens barrel displays aperture, focus distance, and depth-of-field figures, while an assignable L.Fn button and programmable control ring provide convenient access to exposure and camera settings without using your hands to adjust the camera body.
