The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S is a compact prime lens designed for Nikon's FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras, delivering a natural 50mm perspective ideal for general purpose photography. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture enables excellent performance in low-light conditions while providing substantial control over depth of field for selective focus and subject isolation. The optical design incorporates two aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements that work together to minimize spherical aberration, distortion, and chromatic fringing, resulting in sharp and accurate image rendering.
A stepping motor provides smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override capability, making the lens equally suited to both still photography and video work. Additional features include a programmable control ring for intuitive exposure adjustments, a nine-blade rounded diaphragm for pleasing bokeh, and both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coatings to reduce flare and ghosting. The lens barrel is dust and moisture-resistant, allowing reliable operation in challenging environmental conditions.
