The optical design incorporates three Special Low Dispersion glass elements and one molded glass aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberrations, sagittal coma flare, and vignetting while delivering exceptional sharpness and clarity across the frame. A Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast and color accuracy even in challenging lighting conditions.
The lens features a Hyper Sonic AF Motor that delivers quick, quiet, and smooth autofocus performance, with full-time manual focus override available by simply rotating the focus ring. A floating system and large 85.4mm diameter design contribute to maintained peripheral brightness and consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, with a minimum focus distance of 1.31 feet and maximum magnification of 1:5.55. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces pleasing out-of-focus bokeh, making this lens well-suited for portraiture, creative work, and astrophotography applications.
